How Invisalign treatment works

Invisalign treatment moves teeth with a series of thin, clear aligners made for your mouth alone. Each set is worn for one to two weeks, for 20 to 22 hours a day, and comes out when you eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth. Small tooth-coloured attachments are often bonded to a few teeth to help the aligners grip.

Before anything is made, we scan your teeth with an iTero scanner and build a ClinCheck treatment plan: a 3D preview showing how each tooth is expected to move and how the finished smile should look. You see it on the screen and agree it before treatment starts.

Is Invisalign treatment right for me?

Invisalign treatment suits most mild to moderate crowding, spacing and bite problems, and a good many complex ones in experienced hands. It does ask something of you: aligners only work while they are in your mouth.

If you would rather not have to think about it, or your teeth need the kind of movement aligners do less well, fixed or lingual braces may be the better route, and we will say so. Because every option is available here, the advice has no reason to lean one way. Compare with braces.

Invisalign treatment: your questions

How much does Invisalign treatment cost at Bellevue Dental?+

Invisalign treatment is from £4,500, depending on how much movement is needed. A consultation for Invisalign treatment with Dr Adam White is free, a consultation with our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Henry Wong, is £150, and the ClinCheck digital treatment plan is £350. You will have exact costs in writing before you start, and finance is available.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?+

Many treatments take between six and eighteen months. Small corrections can be quicker and complex bites can take longer. Your ClinCheck plan shows the expected number of aligners before you begin.

Does Invisalign treatment hurt?+

Most people feel pressure or tenderness for the first few days of each new set of aligners. That is the teeth moving, and it eases quickly.

Can teenagers have Invisalign treatment?+

Yes, where the teeth are suitable and the aligners will be worn as instructed. Our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Henry Wong, advises families on whether aligners or fixed braces are the better choice.

What happens when Invisalign treatment finishes?+

You move on to retainers, which hold the teeth in their new position. We use Vivera retainers, made by the makers of Invisalign clear aligners, along with fixed wire retainers where they are appropriate.

Is Invisalign treatment better than braces?+

Neither is better for everyone. Invisalign aligners are removable and hard to notice; fixed braces give the most precise control and do not depend on remembering to wear them. We offer both and will recommend whichever suits your teeth.
