The Nightingale Triangle is the name locals give to the Victorian streets of SW12 between Wandsworth Common, Nightingale Lane and Balham. It is mostly residential: tree-lined roads of terraced houses, a handful of independent shops and cafés, well-regarded schools and the open space of the common on its doorstep.
Estate agents and neighbours draw its edges a little differently, but everyone agrees on its character. It feels like a village inside London, where people know each other by name.
That is the feeling we want at Bellevue too. Our team know their patients, take the time to listen and are here for the long term. You can meet the team before you visit.
A little history
Nightingale Lane appears on John Rocque’s map of 1745 as a tree-lined country lane. Once called Balham Wood Lane, it is thought to have carried cattle between Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common.
Until the 1870s this was mostly open land, with woods and farms where the terraces now stand. A few large villas appeared along the lane from around 1860.
The railway and the station at Wandsworth Common brought the area within easy reach of the City. Between the 1870s and the 1890s the streets south of Nightingale Lane were laid out as a fashionable new suburb.
St Luke’s Church (1883) and the Church of the Holy Ghost (1897) date from those years. Nightingale Lane became a conservation area in 1970, which helps the streets keep their Victorian character.
Today the Triangle is known for its family life: busy school runs, weekend walks on the common, local pubs, the cafés and shops of Bellevue Road and easy trains into town.
Bellevue Dental has been part of that daily life for years. Families come to us for check-ups and hygiene, children for orthodontics with our Specialist Orthodontist, and adults for everything from a single filling to a complete smile makeover.
If you live nearby, you are welcome to pop in and say hello. Our team are always happy to show you around before you book.
