Why it matters to you

Technology is only useful if it makes your care better. A 3D scan can show a problem that a flat X-ray would miss, so treatment is planned with fewer surprises. Digital scanning replaces impression putty, which most people find much more comfortable.

Same-day CEREC crowns mean one visit instead of two, and no temporary crown. Working under magnification means smaller, more precise treatment, which keeps more of your own tooth.

Dr Amit Patel is a Key Opinion Leader for Dentsply Sirona and speaks to other dentists about digital workflow, and the whole team keeps up to date with new techniques. We will always explain what we are using and why.

Our technology: your questions

What is a CBCT scan?+

CBCT stands for cone beam computed tomography. It gives a 3D view of the teeth, jaw and surrounding structures, which we use to plan implants, find hidden root canals and check difficult wisdom teeth. We take one only when it will change the plan.

Do you still take impressions?+

Rarely. We use digital scanning with iTero™ and CEREC Primescan instead of impression putty for most treatments, including Invisalign® treatment and same-day crowns.

What is a same-day crown?+

With our CEREC system, a crown or onlay can be scanned, designed, milled and fitted in one visit, with no temporary crown.

Why use an operating microscope?+

Magnification lets us see fine detail such as tiny root canals and hairline cracks, so treatment is more precise and more of the natural tooth is kept.

What is Guided Biofilm Therapy?+

Guided Biofilm Therapy is a modern way of cleaning teeth. Plaque is made visible with a dye, then removed gently with AIRFLOW warm water, air and fine powder, with ultrasonic instruments only where they are needed.
