What we look at

What a check-up covers

Teeth and existing work

Every tooth is checked for decay, cracks and wear, along with any fillings, crowns or bridges you already have.

Gums

We measure the health of your gums, because gum disease is usually painless until it is well established.

Soft tissues

Your cheeks, tongue, palate and throat are examined for anything unusual. It takes a minute and it matters.

X-rays when needed

X-rays show what we cannot see between and beneath the teeth. We take them only when they will tell us something useful.

Your first visit

A new patient assessment is longer than a routine check, because we want to get to know you. We ask about your health and your dental history, and about anything you would like to change or have been worried about.

After the examination we talk through what we found. If treatment is advised you will have a written plan with exact costs, and time to think it over. Nothing is started without your agreement.

Most people then come back every six to twelve months, with a visit to our hygienist in between. If something small is caught early, such as a filling, it stays small.
