How it works
The tooth is numbed and shaped to receive the crown, removing any weak or decayed areas.
A digital scan records the tooth and your bite in a few minutes, with no impression putty.
The crown is designed on screen, then milled on site from a block of high-strength ceramic and fired.
The finished crown is checked against your bite, bonded in place and polished.
A traditional crown usually means two visits, a messy impression and a few weeks in a temporary crown. A same-day crown avoids all three. It is a good choice when a tooth is cracked, heavily filled or worn, or has had root canal treatment.
An onlay is a smaller version that covers only the weakened part of the tooth and keeps more of your natural tooth. We will tell you which is better for each tooth. Same-day crowns are part of how we treat cracked teeth and tooth wear.
Not every case suits a same-day crown. Some front teeth and larger cosmetic cases are better made by a dental laboratory, and we will be honest when that is the case. You can read more about our equipment on our technology page.

Yes. CEREC crowns are milled from a solid block of high-strength ceramic, then fired for strength and finished to match your teeth.
Most same-day crowns are designed, made and fitted in a single, longer appointment. You can relax in reception or step out while the crown is being made.
No. Because the crown is fitted the same day, there is no temporary crown to wear and no second visit to fit the final one.
No. We use a digital scan instead of impression putty, which most people find much more comfortable.
When a tooth has lost a lot of its structure, from a large filling, a crack or wear, a filling may not be strong enough on its own. An onlay or crown covers and protects what remains.
